How do I assess your running technique?

To sprint at speed comes with a high skill set of specific drills amalgamate with one's passion and commitment to achieve strong performance and results.

To develop a solid athletic training programme for my clients, you must first take them through a complete assessment battery. The information gathered shall highlight flexibility, strength, performance and postural testing to help me to identify any muscular imbalance or deficits and set a baseline to build their athletic programme from.

Lucas is a footballer and wishes to improve his acceleration and top-end speed.

Lateral jog assessment

Lucas jog assessment has good intentions but indicates a bounce hip action with shoulders raised indicates secondary respiratory action used due to a breath mechanics restriction. Lucas is jogging with low knee lift with an overstriding run pattern.

Tends to run upright from time to time.

Forward jog assessment

Noticed his feet are too narrow on landing with his knee turned inwards with a knee lift.

Arm swings are good but slight swung away from the body caused by raised shoulders as mentioned earlier.

ANKLES

Today I wish to discuss the ankles.

Noticed his feet are too narrow on landing with his knee turned inwards with a knee lift. His arm swings are good but slight swung away from the body caused by raised shoulders as mentioned earlier.

My client was made aware of the significance and I got him to complete a couple of pogo drills to activate the necessary muscles and to demonstrate to him the power he can achieve with great technique from the Snap!

The challenge is to pull the feet upward after landing and comes with great practice. A very important skill to master indeed.

Lucus did well for his first training session with me. The athletic sprint drills provided him with a better understanding of sports science. We managed to give him a structure-based with higher knees, more leg drive with powerful arm swings. Lucas has the basic foundations to build upon on his next visit.

Book a session with me and I will tell you about your running techniques and how to improve them.
